Yari Road-Lokhandwala Flyover Targeted For December 2027 Completion

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set December 2027 as the target for completing the proposed Yari Road-Lokhandwala flyover in Andheri West, a project expected to improve east-west connectivity and reduce travel time for commuters in the area.

Mumbai Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar reviewed the project during a site inspection and instructed officials to complete the work by the revised deadline.

The flyover is being constructed near Amarnath Tower at the Yari Road-Lokhandwala Back Road junction, crossing Kavthe Creek. The civic body is developing the bridge because the creek has prevented the planned Development Plan road from being established between its eastern and western sides.

The project is expected to create a direct connection between Yari Road, Panchmarg and Vesave and residential areas such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar, Lokhandwala Complex and Samarth Nagar.

206-Metre Flyover Over Kavthe Creek

The proposed structure will stretch 206 metres, comprising a 110-metre main bridge and two approaches measuring 40 metres and 56 metres. The approach sections will connect the bridge to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar and the Amarnath Tower side.

The flyover will be 11 metres wide. Its main superstructure will feature a 110-metre single-span steel basket-handle arch, supported by tension rods connected to the bridge deck slab.

The supporting structure will consist of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) abutment walls and caps, along with RCC pile foundations.

According to the BMC, the project is expected to ease congestion and substantially shorten travel times for motorists travelling between Vesave, Yari Road, Lokhandwala and nearby neighbourhoods. The civic body estimates that journeys in the area could fall from around 30 minutes to approximately 10 minutes once the flyover becomes operational.

Future Connectivity Link

The flyover is also expected to become an important alternative route after the proposed Versova-Bandra Sea Link and Mumbai Coastal Road Project (North) are completed.

By connecting neighbourhoods on both sides of Kavthe Creek, the project is intended to provide residents with another east-west route and improve access to major transport corridors.

The BMC expects the flyover to offer additional relief to traffic in Andheri West while strengthening connectivity between residential areas and the wider western suburbs.
