Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s long association with Galaxy Apartments in Bandra has come under renewed attention following reports that a new six-storey residential building is being developed for his family nearby. However, there is no official confirmation that the actor plans to leave his iconic residence.
According to a News report, the Khan family has secured approval for a new residential project in Bandra’s Chimbai area, close to Galaxy Apartments. The property is registered in the name of Salman’s mother, Salma Khan. A previous two-storey structure on the plot was demolished after being declared unsafe, paving the way for the proposed redevelopment.
The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority has reportedly cleared the new residential proposal. The project is planned with a ground floor, stilt parking and six upper floors, with a total built-up area of approximately 1,014 square metres. Sach Developers is associated with the project.
The development has triggered speculation about whether Salman could eventually shift to the new property or whether it is simply another family real estate investment. For now, reports about a permanent move from Galaxy Apartments remain unverified.
Galaxy Apartments has been closely associated with Salman for decades. Unlike several Bollywood personalities who reside in sprawling bungalows, the actor has continued to live in a relatively modest apartment. He is reportedly based in a one-bedroom ground-floor unit, while his parents occupy the floor above.
The proposed new building could potentially provide greater privacy, security and parking facilities. Security has remained a major consideration for the actor since the 2024 firing incident outside Galaxy Apartments, following which he was given Y+ security cover.
The project had earlier received the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Intimation of Disapproval in October 2025, reportedly subject to environmental-related conditions. The revised proposal also includes plantation of additional native trees around the property, in line with requirements applicable to environmentally sensitive coastal areas.
For now, Galaxy Apartments continues to be regarded as Salman Khan’s primary residence, while the new Bandra project remains a development that has fuelled speculation about a possible future shift.
