Seven Indian Apartments That Bring English Countryside Nostalgia Into Modern Homes

Floral wallpapers, antique furniture, warm wood finishes and delicate decorative details are giving Indian apartments a distinctly old-world character. Inspired by English country homes and European interiors, these residences demonstrate how vintage aesthetics can create inviting spaces without sacrificing contemporary comfort.

A Storybook-Inspired Mumbai Apartment

Located in Powai, this 700-square-foot home was designed by Anam Taufik for Ankita Runthala and Kshitij Mishra. Drawing inspiration from English and French cottages, the interiors combine floral patterns, custom-made furniture, warm wooden finishes, handcrafted details and vintage-style lighting. Named Rêverie, the apartment embraces a whimsical, layered aesthetic.

“I wanted details everywhere,” says Runthala. “Little elements that would make every corner feel special.”

A Floral Kochi Apartment

Celebrity makeup artist Samson Lei’s 950-square-foot apartment was redesigned by Shea George as a personalised one-bedroom home. Named Fleur, the residence incorporates floral references through textiles, artwork, lighting and decorative accents, reflecting its owner’s fondness for flowers.

Sonam Kapoor’s Bandra Guesthouse

Actor Sonam Kapoor transformed an 800-square-foot apartment into a private guesthouse with architect Samkit Vakil and stylist Shreya Mantri. Vintage finds from her personal collection are paired with velvet upholstery, botanical-inspired decor and carefully selected furnishings.

“We built rooms around key heirlooms and finds, making sure they felt intentional and not just placed,” says Vakil.

A Nostalgic Kochi Residence

Designed by Ryia Jose for her parents, Joseph Karukapally and Sherly Jose, this apartment preserves memories of their former bungalow. Reclaimed wooden flooring, rosewood furniture, salvaged pillars and repurposed doors bring family history into the new home.

A Sunlit Bengaluru Apartment

Interior designer Shweta Arya Malaviya created a warm, eclectic residence in Whitefield, combining vintage-inspired furniture, earthy textures and handcrafted accessories. Natural light shapes the interiors, while accessible layouts and multifunctional furniture support comfortable living.

A South Mumbai Home with European Influences

Named La Maison Époque, this 2,400-square-foot residence blends European-inspired architecture with Indian vintage accents. Shreya Mantri drew inspiration from aged walls, high ceilings and parquet flooring to establish a sense of history and understated elegance.

A Mumbai Apartment Inspired by Paintings

Shraddha Shah of Olive Roof transformed an ageing apartment into a character-rich home, preserving its rustic appeal through exposed brick, reclaimed wood and textured finishes. A faux Victorian fireplace, vintage wallpaper and a four-poster bed complete its nostalgic atmosphere.

Together, these homes show how thoughtful design, heritage-inspired details and personal collections can bring timeless charm to contemporary Indian apartments.
