The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a proposal to introduce its own public transport service, alongside several infrastructure and youth-focused initiatives, at a special general body meeting held on October 15.
The meeting, numbered 11, took place at Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Natyagriha in Panvel under the chairmanship of Mayor Nitin Patil. Members considered proposals covering transport connectivity, civic development, skill training, entrepreneurship and environmental management.
Among the key decisions was the proposal to establish a municipal transport service, aimed at strengthening public mobility within the civic limits.
The general body also approved proposals for constructing road overbridges (ROBs) through the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MahaRail). These projects are proposed at locations within the municipal area where railway gates are currently absent.
78 civic works receive approval
The corporation granted administrative approval for 78 development works under the District Annual Plan (General) for 2025-26. The projects will be undertaken under the district-level Nagarotthan Mahabhiyan scheme, which supports urban infrastructure development.
Free skill training for local youth
To improve employment prospects, the civic body cleared free skill development programmes for young residents. The courses will cover technical as well as non-technical disciplines.
A separate proposal for free training related to Navi Mumbai International Airport was also approved. The initiative is intended to prepare local youth for potential employment opportunities associated with the aviation sector.
Additionally, the corporation approved free technical training and small entrepreneurship development programmes in collaboration with the Maharashtra Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (MCED). The initiative is expected to help young people develop practical skills and explore self-employment opportunities.
Tree Authority Committee to be formed
The general body also approved the nomination of members to establish a Tree Authority Committee for the Panvel Municipal Corporation area. The committee will form part of the civic body’s framework for managing tree-related matters.
Together, the decisions cover public transport, railway connectivity, urban development, youth employment and environmental administration, reflecting the range of issues addressed at the special meeting.
