Mumbai’s Vidyavihar Flyover To Open On October 10

Mumbai’s Vidyavihar flyover, located in the Ghatkopar area, is nearing completion, with the main structure scheduled to open to traffic by October 10, 2026. The project will provide a direct link between Ramchandra Chemburkar Marg on the eastern side and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg on the western side of Vidyavihar railway station.

Most construction and finishing activities have been completed, including roadwork, painting and lighting. The installation of noise barriers remains the principal outstanding task and is in its final phase. These barriers are intended to minimise traffic noise for residents living near the elevated road.

Civic Officials Review Opening Arrangements

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar inspected the site alongside traffic police personnel. During the visit, he assessed preparations for vehicle movement and pedestrian access once the flyover becomes operational. He also directed civic officials and the traffic police to coordinate their efforts to ensure a smooth opening.

The two-lane flyover stretches approximately 650 metres. Its design comprises a 100-metre section crossing the railway tracks, a 220-metre approach on the eastern side and a 330-metre approach on the western side. The infrastructure is expected to improve movement between the two sides of the station.

Station Access and Pedestrian Facilities Upgraded

The project also incorporates connections to the station’s pedestrian walkways. As part of the work, ticket offices on both sides, the station master’s office and staircases have been reconstructed.

A staircase within the railway premises links the pedestrian pathway with the service road, improving access for commuters and people travelling through the surrounding neighbourhood.

Traffic Management Measures Planned

Bangar instructed officials to examine vehicle movement on nearby roads, key junctions and traffic signals. The measures include installing directional signboards and barricades, regulating traffic in coordination with the police wherever necessary, and preparing plans to prevent congestion on approach roads during peak periods.

Authorities have also been asked to place pedestrian safety at the centre of operational planning. With most construction work complete, the final preparations are focused on ensuring that the flyover opens with appropriate traffic controls and safe access for commuters.
