MuseLAB Transforms A Thane Apartment Into A Study In Subtle Colours & Sculptural Design

A 3,000-square-foot apartment in Thane showcases how neutral colours, tactile materials and flowing forms can create a home that feels both understated and visually engaging. Designed by Jasem Pirani and Huzefa Rangwala of MuseLAB, the residence was planned for a couple and their two sons, with a brief centred on a light, cohesive palette that remained warm and expressive.

The interiors combine ecru, taupe, soft pistachio, buttery yellow and dusty blue. Rather than relying on bold contrasts, the designers used textures, sculptural elements and carefully considered lighting to introduce depth. “It was not easy to develop a palette that sits within a narrow tonal range and still feels layered. On a mood board, everything can start to look flat,” the designers say.

The 900-square-foot living area establishes the home’s distinctive character through curved walls, concentric ceiling details and circular forms that subtly separate the lounge, dining area and coffee corner. A balcony spa pool introduces shifting water reflections, enhancing the sense of movement indoors. Most of the furniture was custom-designed for the residence.

One of the project’s most intricate features is the marble inlay flooring. “We wanted the floor to resemble terrazzo but without using terrazzo in the conventional sense,” they said. Lake Placid Quartzite was cut into small pieces using waterjet technology and embedded into marble to achieve the desired effect. The three concentric rings in the floor were carefully aligned with the ceiling design and surrounding circular elements.

A dedicated coffee nook reflects the residents’ shared enthusiasm for the ritual. The kitchen follows a restrained white palette, complemented by soft sage accents, while the dining area features a custom 42-inch dome light above a circular marble table.

The primary bedroom continues the tranquil aesthetic through sandy taupe shades, an arched headboard in Movingue White veneer and scalloped details around the bay window. The master bathroom introduces blush-toned micro-concrete and veined Corteccia marble.

In contrast, the sons’ bedrooms and bathrooms incorporate brighter shades of electric green and steel blue. Balancing playful details with understated finishes, the apartment demonstrates how a limited colour palette can still deliver personality, warmth and individuality.
