Mumbai’s Metro Line 6 is set to gain improved pedestrian connectivity with two proposed foot overbridges linking metro stations to the suburban railway network at Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg and Jogeshwari. The project, estimated to cost Rs 184.07 crore, aims to simplify transfers between metro and local train services.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited bids for the construction of the two bridges, according to its official tender notice dated October 17, 2026. The tender was opened on the same date, while the deadline for submitting bids is November 12, 2026.
The project has been divided into two components. The first involves constructing a foot overbridge between Vikhroli Metro Station and Kanjurmarg railway station, providing passengers with pedestrian access to Central Railway services. The second will connect Jogeshwari Metro Station with Jogeshwari railway station, improving access to Western Railway services.
Construction Timeline and Contract Details
MMRDA has specified a construction period of 24 months, including the monsoon season. The contract also includes a 60-month defect liability period, during which the contractor will be responsible for addressing defects covered under the agreement.
However, the authority has not yet announced when the bridges are expected to open to commuters. The final construction schedule will depend on subsequent developments in the tendering and contract award process.
The tender reference number is MMRDA/TnC/FOB/ML 6/2026, while the tender ID is 2026_MMRDA-1345404_1.
Metro Line 6 Project Overview
The proposed bridges are expected to strengthen connections between Mumbai Metro Line 6 and the city’s suburban railway network, particularly for passengers relying on multiple modes of transport during their daily journeys.
According to MMRDA, Metro Line 6 is a 15.31-km elevated corridor connecting Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikhroli through Jogeshwari, Powai and Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ). The corridor will feature 13 stations and planned interchanges with Metro Lines 2A, 3, 4 and 7.
MMRDA’s August 2026 progress update reported station construction at 87.35% completion, while pier and U-girder works had reached 97.88% and 93.40%, respectively. Once completed, the corridor and its proposed foot overbridges are expected to improve connectivity across Mumbai.
