After Over Two Years, Sion Bridge Reopens; BEST Restores 14 Bus Routes

Mumbai’s Sion Railway Overbridge has reopened to traffic following the completion of reconstruction work, allowing the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking to return 14 bus services to their original routes.

Vehicular movement resumed on October 22, 2026, while BEST implemented the route restoration from October 23. The bridge had remained shut since June 30, 2024, compelling buses to take detours through Sion, Dharavi and neighbouring areas.

The reopening restores an important road connection between eastern and western Sion, improving access for commuters travelling towards Kalanagar, Dharavi, Mahim and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg.

The 14 services returning to their earlier alignments are 181, 255 Limited, 348 Limited, A-312, 341, A-375, AC-505, A-376, A-7, A-22, 29 Limited, 411, 11 Limited and C-305. Their routes cover important roads and junctions, including Rani Laxmibai Chowk, Sant Rohidas Marg and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg.

Buses 181, 255 Limited and 348 Limited will resume travelling towards Kalanagar via Sant Rohidas Marg, Piwla Bangla and Tapase Chowk before proceeding along the Dharavi-Sion Link Road. Services A-312 and 341 will operate through Road No. 8 and Sant Rohidas Marg.

Routes serving the Lokmanya Tilak Hospital area, including A-7, A-22, 29 Limited and 411, will also return to their previous paths towards Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg.

Changes to AC Bus Services

Air-conditioned services AC-505 and A-376, connecting Everard Nagar with Kalanagar and Mahim, will resume their earlier routes through Sion and Dharavi.

BEST has separately revised the circular route of AC bus A-176, removing its diversion between Akashganga Society and Dharavi Depot. The bus will now travel via Sant Rohidas Marg and Vasantrao Naik Marg towards Rani Laxmibai Chowk. Stops at Dharavi Bus Depot and Kala Killa have been discontinued.

Meanwhile, bus A-356 from Everard Nagar to Kalanagar will continue operating on its existing route.

The reopening is expected to ease commuting and improve connectivity across the surrounding neighbourhoods.
