Mumbai Power Infrastructure Gets Boost As Bajel Projects Bags Rs 200 Crore Order

Bajel Projects Limited has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth approximately Rs 200 crore from Tata Power to develop 400 kV gas-insulated substations (GIS) at Dharavi and Ghatkopar in Mumbai. The project covers equipment supply and civil construction, with completion scheduled within 18 months of the purchase order being issued.

The latest contract strengthens the company’s presence in Mumbai’s power transmission and distribution infrastructure segment and adds to its existing order book. It follows an earlier order exceeding Rs 200 crore for 220 kV GIS substations at Salsette and Powai.

Gas-insulated substations are particularly suitable for densely populated urban areas because they require considerably less land than conventional air-insulated substations. This makes the technology valuable in Mumbai, where space constraints pose challenges for expanding electricity infrastructure.

The new order also adds to Bajel Projects’ recent contract wins. On October 26, 2026, the company announced an ultra-mega EPC order valued at Rs 1,500 crore from Lakadia A Power Transmission Limited for renewable energy transmission corridors. Earlier, on October 9, it secured a major contract worth more than Rs 200 crore for the Salsette and Powai substations.

These successive wins indicate continued demand for the company’s expertise in high-voltage electrical infrastructure and provide greater visibility into its project pipeline over the coming months.

However, execution will remain important to translating the additional orders into revenue and profitability. Work in densely developed urban locations can face logistical constraints, site-access challenges and delays linked to municipal permissions. Changes in the prices of copper, aluminium and structural steel could also influence project costs.

The Dharavi and Ghatkopar project is expected to strengthen Mumbai’s high-voltage electricity network while reinforcing Bajel Projects’ position in specialised urban substation development. Timely completion, cost management and progress on project milestones will be important factors to monitor during the 18-month execution period.
