Dombivli MIDC Waste Fires Raise Safety Concerns Over Gas & Petroleum Pipelines

Illegal waste disposal and the burning of garbage along service roads in Dombivli MIDC’s residential area have triggered concerns about air pollution and the possibility of a serious accident. Raju Nalawade has called on the authorities to intervene urgently, highlighting the presence of high-pressure petroleum pipelines, Mahanagar Gas pipelines and electricity lines in the vicinity.

Nalawade has identified several locations where waste is allegedly being dumped, including RM-23, the senior citizens’ association hall, Shri Ganra Banquet Hall, IDBI Bank and the stretch between Rohideshwar Darshan Society and DNS Bank.

According to Nalawade, burning materials such as plastic, thermocol and rubber releases harmful smoke that can affect the health of nearby residents. Senior citizens and children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of polluted air. The situation is further concerning because of the nearby petroleum and gas pipelines, along with electrical infrastructure, which could increase the danger of fire-related incidents.

Nalawade has urged the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) to review CCTV footage from the affected areas to identify individuals involved in illegal dumping and waste burning. He has called for strict action against those found responsible to prevent further violations.

He has also proposed measures to improve the surroundings and discourage the continued disposal of garbage. Nalawade suggested that the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) develop gardens and carry out tree plantation on vacant plots located beneath electricity lines. Such initiatives, he believes, could make the spaces more useful while helping prevent them from becoming dumping grounds.

The concerns have drawn attention to the need for stronger monitoring and enforcement in the industrial-residential belt. Besides addressing the immediate problem of waste burning, authorities have been urged to take preventive steps to protect residents and critical infrastructure.

Nalawade has appealed for prompt action by the civic and industrial authorities to control pollution, stop illegal waste disposal and reduce the risk of a potentially dangerous accident in Dombivli MIDC.
