TMC Commissioner Orders Quality Checks, Warns Contractors Of Action

TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao Reviews Major Infrastructure Projects, Warns Of Blacklisting Contractors Over Poor-Quality Work

Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has reviewed the progress of several major civic infrastructure projects and directed officials to ensure timely execution and strict quality control. He warned that contractors responsible for substandard work would face action, including blacklisting.

The review meeting covered the relocation of Rajiv Gandhi Medical College to Majiwada, renovation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, the K. Villa Nullah bridge, the proposed suburban railway station between Thane and Mulund, the Diva railway flyover and road development works. Parking challenges across Thane were also discussed.

Rao instructed officials and contractors involved in the medical college project to coordinate closely, complete technical requirements on schedule and prevent delays. He reiterated that poor-quality work would not be accepted.

The hospital review focused on building upgrades, oxygen pipeline installation and improvements to essential medical facilities. Rao directed that the work be completed within the stipulated timeline, with public safety and modern healthcare services given priority. Additional Commissioner Major Dr. Nitin Rathod was asked to inspect the site regularly.

Regarding the K. Villa Nullah bridge, officials informed the meeting that arrangements had been finalised for households affected by construction. Residents yet to be relocated will be shifted to rental accommodation in Khopat. Rao asked the concerned departments to resolve pending issues and accelerate construction.

The proposed railway station in the Mental Hospital area, between Thane and Mulund, was another key item. The commissioner directed officials to arrange a meeting with local public representatives the following week to address rehabilitation-related concerns and move the project forward.

Progress on the Diva railway flyover was assessed alongside land acquisition requirements and coordination with government agencies. Rao called for immediate resolution of outstanding obstacles, including the use of police assistance wherever required.

He also reviewed road works in Diva, particularly the concreting and widening of Diva-Shil Road, and instructed teams to follow clear timelines.

Rao concluded by stressing that every project must meet quality standards and be completed within its approved schedule.
