CIDCO Initiates Tender Process For Rs 6,363-Crore Thane–Navi Mumbai Airport Elevated Corridor

The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) has invited tenders to appoint a consultant for reviewing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of a proposed 25-kilometre elevated corridor linking Thane with Navi Mumbai International Airport. The development marks progress on the infrastructure project, which received Maharashtra Cabinet approval last year at an estimated investment of Rs 6,363 crore.

The proposed six-lane elevated road is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Thane and the upcoming aviation hub by reducing the journey from nearly 90 minutes to around 30 minutes. It will also provide an alternative to congested routes, including the Eastern Express Highway and Thane-Belapur Road.

The corridor will originate at Dhan Nirankari Chowk near Patni Maidan in Digha. From there, it will run alongside Thane-Belapur Road for approximately 17 kilometres towards Vashi. A further nine-kilometre double-decker elevated stretch will provide a direct connection to Navi Mumbai International Airport.

The project will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model and will incorporate six interchanges. The road has been planned for design speeds of up to 100 kmph to facilitate smoother movement between the two destinations.

CIDCO has also been instructed to obtain the required environmental and statutory clearances within six months. However, the second phase could face regulatory hurdles because sections of the alignment pass through mangrove stretches and areas governed by Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) restrictions.

The elevated corridor is part of CIDCO’s wider infrastructure programme aimed at strengthening access to Navi Mumbai International Airport, which commenced operations in December 2025.

Apart from Thane, the improved road link is expected to benefit commuters travelling from Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath-Badlapur and Bhayandar. The state Cabinet has also permitted CIDCO to acquire additional land along the alignment for commercial development and utilise government-owned land beneath the elevated structure at nominal rates.

Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and improve access to Navi Mumbai’s growing aviation and economic hub.
