Mumbai Metro Network Crosses Rs 1,000 Crore In Fare & Non-Fare Revenue: MMRDA

Mumbai Metro Network Generates Over Rs 1,000 Crore In Fare And Non-Fare Revenue, Says MMRDA; Four Corridors Highlighted

Mumbai’s expanding Metro network has generated more than Rs 1,000 crore in combined fare and non-fare revenue since the commencement of operations, according to officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The earnings reflect growing passenger connectivity as well as commercial opportunities created through the city’s Metro infrastructure.

The revenue has been contributed by four corridors: Metro Lines 2A, 7, 9 Phase-I and 2B Phase-I. Apart from ticket collections, the authority receives income through commercial activities and other revenue-generating opportunities linked to Metro facilities.

Four Corridors Drive Revenue Growth

Three of the corridors have strengthened transport connectivity across Mumbai’s western suburbs and towards Mira-Bhayandar. Meanwhile, the first phase of Line 2B has extended the network in the eastern suburbs, connecting Chembur with Mandale.

The four routes cover important residential and commercial locations across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Key Metro Routes

  • Metro Line 2A: The 18.6-km elevated corridor runs between Andheri West and Dahisar West, covering 17 stations. It connects several western suburban neighbourhoods and provides interchange access to other Metro routes and suburban railway stations.
  • Metro Line 7: Spanning 16.5 km, this corridor connects Dahisar East with Andheri East through 13 stations. Running largely alongside the Western Express Highway, it offers commuters another option for travelling across the western suburbs.
  • Metro Line 9 Phase-I: This 4.4-km section features four stations between Dahisar East and Kashigaon, extending Metro services towards Mira-Bhayandar.
  • Metro Line 2B Phase-I: Connecting Chembur and Mandale, the initial section strengthens public transport access across the Chembur-Mankhurd belt and surrounding eastern suburban areas.

Expanding Revenue Opportunities

The revenue milestone highlights the financial contribution of Mumbai’s elevated Metro infrastructure beyond passenger ticketing. Commercial activities and monetisation of Metro assets have provided additional income streams for MMRDA.

As the network expands, these corridors are expected to remain important components of the region’s public transport system, supporting suburban connectivity and generating further revenue opportunities.
