Mumbai Metro Line 3 Set For Full Operations As Final Safety Checks Progress

September 17, 2025: Mumbai’s ambitious Metro Line 3 project is on the verge of becoming fully operational, with the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) beginning inspections of the final stretch between Worli and Cuffe Parade on September 12. Once this 10.99 km section secures safety clearance, the entire 33.5 km underground Aqua Line, connecting Colaba to Aarey, will open to commuters.

According to officials, the inspection report will be completed by next week, followed by a final verification round. Authorities confirmed that all observations and recommendations from the current inspection will be addressed before the CMRS revisits the corridor.

Currently, passenger services on Metro Line 3 cover a 22.46 km stretch from Aarey to Acharya Atre Chowk. The upcoming southern extension will add 11 new stations, strengthening links across key business hubs and improving access between Colaba, Worli, Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), and the western suburbs.

The launch of the complete line is expected to significantly ease congestion on Mumbai’s overburdened suburban railway network and reduce road traffic. Once operational, Metro Line 3 will transform daily travel by enhancing connectivity across vital commercial and residential zones in the city.
