September 29, 2025: Mumbai Metro Line 3 has unveiled the Kalbadevi Metro Station, giving a modern facelift to one of the city’s oldest and busiest commercial hubs. Constructed using the advanced NATM tunnelling method, the station is designed to be both a functional transit hub and a symbol of how heritage and technology can coexist.
Kalbadevi, known for its wholesale markets, historic temples, and cultural legacy, will now benefit from improved connectivity through the Aqua Line. The newly revealed station features sleek, contemporary interiors, with spacious concourses, granite-finished walls, and wide escalators designed to handle large commuter volumes. Clear signages in English, Hindi, and Marathi direct passengers towards ticket offices, exits, and customer service counters. Accessibility has been prioritised with elevators, escalators, and tactile guiding strips to assist the visually impaired.
At the platform level, passengers are welcomed by an electronic display reading, “Welcome to Kalbadevi Metro Station.” Safety and modernity are evident in the glass-panelled doors, bright lighting, and polished corridors, creating an environment suited for heavy footfall. Officials note that the station’s design specifically accommodates the area’s dense business activity.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has emphasised that the project reflects more than just urban convenience. By situating the station in a heritage-rich neighbourhood, it aims to create what it calls a “bridge between Marathi culture and Mumbai’s fast-paced urban life.”
The station also offers multiple exits linking commuters directly to major landmarks, ensuring ease of access for traders, shopkeepers, and visitors. This infrastructure is expected to ease congestion, cut down travel time, and enhance mobility in central Mumbai.
With Kalbadevi now integrated into the Aqua Line network, Mumbai Metro continues to strengthen its role in transforming the city’s transport landscape.
