November 08, 2025: Commuters on Central Railway’s Belapur–Uran corridor are set to benefit from a major upgrade this month, as the railways prepare to inaugurate two new stations—Targhar and Gavhan—and introduce 10 additional suburban services.
Targhar station, located close to the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), will cater to daily commuters as well as airport personnel, offering improved last-mile connectivity to the airport zone. Gavhan station, on the other hand, will serve residents in the rapidly developing Uran region, where population and housing growth have surged in recent years. The Belapur–Uran corridor currently operates 40 suburban services, and the addition of 10 more is expected to enhance service frequency and commuter convenience.
According to railway officials, all civil and signalling works at the two stations have been completed, and final inspections are underway. The new stations and services are likely to be commissioned later this month after receiving mandatory clearances from relevant authorities.
Jointly funded by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and Central Railway in a 67:33 ratio, the Belapur–Uran line is one of Navi Mumbai’s most important infrastructure projects, linking the fast-growing Uran belt with Mumbai’s suburban rail network.
Originally proposed in 1997, the project faced several delays due to land acquisition and construction challenges. However, the upcoming commissioning of Targhar and Gavhan stations marks a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity between Navi Mumbai, Uran, and the upcoming international airport.
Officials noted that the new infrastructure will not only ease commuter movement but also support future airport-linked traffic, giving a boost to regional growth and real estate development along the corridor.
