November 08, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated a large-scale land acquisition plan spanning 346 hectares to support multiple infrastructure projects aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity across Mumbai’s western suburbs. The land will accommodate road alignments, interchanges, access roads, workspaces, and development plan roads linked to major projects, including the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP)–North, the Versova–Bhayandar Link Road, and the Madh–Versova cable-stayed bridge.
Following the completion of the southern phase of the Coastal Road—from the Princess Street flyover at Marine Drive to the Worli end of the Bandra–Worli Sea Link—focus has now shifted to the Rs 16,621 crore, 20 km MCRP–North stretch connecting Versova and Dahisar. The BMC also plans a 5.6 km elevated Dahisar–Bhayandar corridor, estimated at Rs 3,304 crore, targeted for completion by December 2028. The project is expected to cut travel time from 90–120 minutes to just 15–20 minutes and reduce emissions by about 55%.
Further, the Rs 3,990 crore Madh–Versova Bridge will connect Versova Koliwada and Madh Jetty within three years, while the Rs 2,200 crore Andheri–Malad vehicular bridge and the Marve–Manori bridge will improve east–west and coastal mobility, cutting the Gorai–Manori–Uttan route from 29 km to 1.5 km.
“Land acquisition and regulatory approvals remain the primary bottlenecks. Nearly 200 hectares are needed for the MCRP–North project alone,” said a senior civic official. To address this, the BMC has floated a Rs 5.24 crore tender to appoint a consultant for facilitating clearances and acquisition, with a submission deadline of November 17.
Together, these projects aim to create seamless suburban connectivity, reduce congestion, and mark a transformative phase in Mumbai’s urban infrastructure development.
