November 15, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat today (15 November) to take stock of the construction progress of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor, India’s first Bullet Train project. During the visit, he is expected to inspect the under-construction Surat station at around 10 am, marking a significant milestone for the country’s most advanced rail initiative.
The MAHSR corridor, stretching approximately 508 km, is one of India’s largest and most ambitious infrastructure undertakings. The alignment covers 352 km across Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and another 156 km in Maharashtra, connecting key urban centres including Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi, Thane, and Mumbai.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, nearly 85 per cent of the corridor — around 465 km — is being constructed on elevated viaducts. This design minimises land disruption and significantly enhances safety. Of this elevated stretch, 326 km of viaduct work has already been completed. Additionally, 17 out of the 25 planned river bridges along the route are now ready.
Once operational, the high-speed rail service is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to roughly two hours. The project is positioned to transform inter-city travel, while boosting economic activity, business mobility, and tourism along the western corridor.
The 47-km Surat–Bilimora section is in an advanced stage of development, with civil construction and track-bed laying fully completed. The upcoming Surat station draws architectural inspiration from the city’s globally renowned diamond industry and will include spacious waiting lounges, restrooms, retail areas, and integrated connectivity with the proposed Surat Metro, city buses, and Indian Railways.
The Prime Minister’s inspection today underscores the significant headway made so far as the MAHSR project moves closer to realising India’s first operational Bullet Train network.
