November 15, 2025: Amid rising public complaints over post-monsoon road deterioration, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has stepped up its road improvement efforts under the supervision of Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. Acting on his earlier instructions, the engineering department has initiated widespread restoration works across multiple nodes in the city.
Earlier this week, Dr Shinde carried out a surprise inspection of ongoing road construction activities in Seawoods. He was accompanied by City Engineer Shirish Aradwad and Executive Engineer Madan Waghchaude. The visit covered key zones in Sectors 46, 48, and 50, where resurfacing and asphalt laying were in progress.
During the inspection, Dr Shinde closely assessed the quality of bitumen being used, stressing that “the asphalt should be applied at a minimum temperature of 120 degrees Celsius.” He also directed that potholes and uneven patches be first repaired with a BM layer before applying the final asphalt coat to ensure long-term durability.
The commissioner personally examined ongoing works at the Akshar Signal Road, the L&T Bridge junction, and the main road in Sector 50. He instructed officials to complete the remaining works within the next eight to ten days, while maintaining strict adherence to technical specifications and material standards. Additionally, he called for the concurrent acceleration of water pipeline works in the same areas to avoid repeated road excavation.
To ensure accountability, Dr Shinde mandated independent third-party quality testing of all completed road sections. Reiterating the importance of timely and durable public infrastructure, he directed the engineering department to prioritise citizen complaints and enforce rigorous supervision across all repair and resurfacing activities.
Dr Shinde’s unannounced review reflects NMMC’s renewed commitment to delivering safe, resilient and well-maintained road networks in the post-monsoon period.
