December 12, 2025: Mumbai Metro Line 12 (Kalyan–Taloja) has crossed a significant construction milestone with the successful launch of its 100th U-girder near Dombivli MIDC Metro Station on Shilphata Road, The Free Press Journal reported. Developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), this achievement signals strong progress for the 23.57 km elevated corridor, which is slated for completion by May 2028.
The Orange Line is expected to become a crucial green mobility corridor, improving connectivity between Kalyan, Dombivli and Taloja while offering future access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. With 19 stations planned, the line aims to decongest key routes and encourage transit-oriented development across the Kalwa–Taloja belt.
The alignment passes through the Kalwa–Shilphata–Taloja stretch and includes several engineering challenges. Along with a 7 km MSRDC flyover, the project features a 100-metre clear span near Kolegaon, a 75-metre steel structure over the Taloja ROB and crossings over important arterial roads and railway networks. Elevated stations, rising 21–23 metres, are designed to ensure seamless passenger flow.
Upon completion, Line 12 will provide vital interchange points: with Metro Line 5 at Kalwa, Line 14 at Hedutne, and Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 at Amandut. A dedicated foot overbridge will also connect Kalwa Junction to the Central Railway, enhancing last-mile connectivity.
Construction activity across multiple stretches is progressing rapidly. The Kalyan–Manpada section has completed surveys, piling, pier caps and U-girder installation, while the batching plant is fully operational. Work on civil structures, piers and land acquisition in areas such as Patripul and Amandut is also advancing.
With MMRDA accelerating execution, Metro Line 12 is poised to significantly boost mobility and strengthen regional integration within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
