December 19, 2025: Vasai Road station, now emerging as Mumbai’s newest Bypass Terminus, has commissioned a 10-metre-wide elevated deck that significantly improves passenger movement between suburban platforms, express terminus facilities, and the upcoming Vasai Bypass Terminus. Officially known as the Vasai Road Coaching Terminus, the project is positioned next to the existing Vasai Road station and is designed to transform the location into a major hub for both long-distance and suburban rail services.
The terminus project aims to ease congestion across Mumbai’s rail network, strengthen services on corridors such as Panvel–Vasai, and enhance overall regional connectivity. Once fully completed by mid-2027, the development will include around five kilometres of new tracks, additional platforms, and modern passenger facilities catering to outstation and suburban trains.
Alongside the terminus works, the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is carrying out extensive station upgrades at Vasai Road under the MUTP–3A programme. These improvements focus on passenger circulation, safety, and amenities, while ensuring uninterrupted train operations at one of the suburban network’s busiest stations.
“The station improvement works are being executed in phases to minimise inconvenience to commuters, considering the heavy suburban footfall and operational constraints. MRVC remains committed to the timely completion of the remaining works while ensuring passenger safety and uninterrupted train services,” MRVC Chief Public Relations Officer Sunil G Udasi said.
Key infrastructure additions include a new foot overbridge connecting the east circulating area to island platforms 4/5 and 6/7, equipped with escalators and staircases, with nearly 80 per cent of work completed. The elevated deck over island platform 6/7 spans 250 metres in length and links four FOBs, with a portion already open to the public. Platform resurfacing and new toilet blocks are also being implemented in phases.
Commuters have welcomed the upgrades. “Vasai Road has always been overcrowded, especially during peak hours. This elevated deck should make changing platforms much smoother and safer,” said Tanveer Ranka, a daily office commuter. College student Ankita Sahu added, “A wide elevated deck will really help students and daily passengers move faster.” Long-distance travellers and senior citizens have also highlighted improved safety, accessibility, and convenience as key benefits of the new infrastructure.
