Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Reaches Key Milestones With 331 Km Viaduct Completed

December 31, 2025: The Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project is making steady progress, with significant civil and infrastructure works completed along India’s first high-speed rail corridor. Implemented by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the 508 km corridor has already seen over 331 km of viaduct work completed, while pier work has been finished across 410 km, according to the Ministry of Railways.

Bridge construction is advancing strongly. Seventeen river bridges, five prestressed concrete bridges (PSC), and eleven steel bridges have been completed. Simultaneously, track-related works are progressing, with approximately 272 km of reinforced concrete (RC) track bed laid so far. “As of 21 December 2025, 331 km of viaduct work has been completed out of the total 508 km alignment. Pier work has been completed for 410 km. Seventeen river bridges, five PSC bridges, and eleven steel bridges have already been completed. Around 272 track km of RC track bed has been constructed,” the Ministry stated.

Electrification infrastructure is also advancing, with more than 4,100 overhead equipment masts installed along the corridor. In Maharashtra, major tunnelling works are underway, addressing challenging geological conditions and marking a critical phase of construction.

Rolling stock depots are being developed at Surat and Ahmedabad to support future operations and maintenance, ensuring the corridor’s long-term functionality.

The Ministry emphasized that the project will introduce world-class high-speed rail technology to India and significantly cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, two of the country’s major economic hubs. With these milestones, the bullet train project is on track to transform intercity travel and set a benchmark for future high-speed rail initiatives in India.
