January 19, 2026: Following the establishment of Bihar Bhavan in Delhi, the Bihar government has moved to develop a similar institutional facility in Mumbai, with the state cabinet approving a high-rise project aimed at administrative support and public welfare. The proposed Bihar Bhavan will come up in the Mumbai Port Trust area at Elephant Estate and is expected to strengthen the state’s presence in the country’s financial capital.
According to Building Construction Department Secretary Kumar Ravi, the planned structure will be around 30 storeys high, including a basement, and will be equipped with modern infrastructure. The cabinet has granted administrative approval of ₹314.20 crore for the project, enabling the commencement of construction-related processes.
The upcoming Bihar Bhavan is designed to function as a multi-purpose facility. It will house government offices and provide space for official meetings, while also offering accommodation for visiting officials. In addition, dedicated arrangements will be made for patients from Bihar who travel to Mumbai for cancer treatment and other serious medical care, along with facilities for accompanying family members.
As outlined in the project plan, the building will be constructed on about 0.68 acre of land and will rise to nearly 69 metres. The facility will include 178 rooms, along with a dormitory that can accommodate around 240 patients and attendants, addressing a key requirement for affordable stay during extended medical treatment.
The design also incorporates several features that provide support and convenience. These include sensor-based smart parking with triple and double-decker systems capable of accommodating up to 233 vehicles, a 72-seat conference hall for official and community engagements, a cafeteria, a medical room and other essential amenities required for daily operations.
Officials said the project represents a significant step toward improving support systems for Bihar residents in Mumbai, particularly those seeking medical treatment. It is also expected to enhance coordination of administrative work outside the state and provide a centralised facility for official activities, reflecting Bihar’s effort to replicate the functional model of its Delhi Bhavan in another major metropolitan centre.
