BMC Honours Engineers For Timely Infrastructure Projects, Advances Cable-Stayed Bridge Work In Mahalaxmi

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has recognised officers and engineers from its bridge department for successfully completing several major infrastructure projects within scheduled timelines. According to an official statement, certificates of appreciation were presented by BMC Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani at a felicitation programme held at the civic headquarters.

The event was attended by Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar, Chief Engineer (Bridges) Uttam Shrote, and several senior engineers from the department. During the ceremony, Gagrani also honoured Chief Engineer Uttam Shrote with a bouquet ahead of his retirement, acknowledging his contributions to Mumbai’s infrastructure development.

The civic body highlighted the timely completion of key projects such as the Bandra East Skywalk, Bellasis Bridge and Safed Pul Bridge. Officials noted that these projects involved complex administrative and logistical challenges, requiring close coordination among multiple agencies and project teams. Officers and engineers associated with these works were recognised for their efficient execution and commitment.

For their role in constructing the Bandra East Skywalk, Executive Engineer Namdev Ravkale, Assistant Engineer Prashant Jawale, Junior Engineer Sameer More and Junior Engineer Amit Dasurkar were felicitated. The skywalk is expected to improve pedestrian connectivity and reduce congestion in one of the city’s busiest transit zones.

The Bellasis Bridge project team also received recognition. Deputy Chief Engineer Rajesh Mule, Executive Engineer Namdev Ravkale, Assistant Engineer Sandeep Patil, Junior Engineer Krupal Khot and Junior Engineer Abhishek Devalekar were honoured for their contributions to completing the structure, which is considered vital for improving road connectivity in central Mumbai.

Certificates were also presented to the Safed Pul Bridge project team, including Former Executive Engineer Naresh Meghrajani, Assistant Engineer Amit Bhandari, Junior Engineer Chandrakant Vhatkar and Junior Engineer Ashishkumar Jain, for their work on strengthening traffic movement in the eastern suburbs.

Meanwhile, the BMC continues to make progress on its first cable-stayed flyover in the Mahalaxmi area. The civic body recently stated that about 55 per cent of the work on the 78.5-metre-high pylon has been completed. Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar conducted an on-site inspection and directed officials to ensure completion within the stipulated timeline while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

The flyover, being constructed on Keshavrao Khadye Marg, will be the first cable-stayed bridge built by the BMC over railway tracks. The structure will connect Saat Rasta to the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, helping ease congestion near Mahalaxmi railway station. The bridge will span 803 metres in total length and 17.2 metres in width, with a 23.01-metre section passing within railway limits.

Officials said the pylon is the most critical structural component, designed using advanced engineering to withstand wind pressure, seismic forces, traffic load and long-term durability. A specialised crane, taller than the pylon, has been installed to support phased construction. The remaining pylon work and associated activities are scheduled for completion by March 31, 2026.
