Senior representatives from KPMG International recently met with Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), to deliberate on strengthening contract management practices for large-scale infrastructure projects across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The KPMG delegation was spearheaded by Lisa Kelvey, Global Head of Infrastructure and Transport at KPMG International, along with Suneel Vora, Partner and Head of Major Projects Advisory at KPMG India. The meeting focused on embedding globally recognized standards into MMRDA’s project execution and governance frameworks.
Key areas of discussion included structured contract design, equitable risk distribution, procurement system improvements, performance tracking mechanisms, and strategies aimed at preventing disputes. Leveraging KPMG’s experience in managing complex infrastructure initiatives across developed markets, the dialogue examined ways to curb budget overruns, minimize delays, reinforce fiscal prudence, and improve implementation efficiency through digital monitoring systems and stronger governance controls.
Dr. Mukherjee reiterated MMRDA’s dedication to incorporating international best practices into every phase of the project lifecycle. He underlined the authority’s commitment to transparent bidding processes, stringent contract supervision, and the timely rollout of transformative infrastructure projects that shape the region’s growth trajectory.
The engagement marks a strategic move toward aligning MMRDA’s institutional processes with international benchmarks. By adopting structured governance models and advanced oversight tools, the authority aims to enhance transparency, operational efficiency, and infrastructure quality. The collaboration is expected to bolster long-term fiscal discipline, reduce project-related risks, and strengthen public confidence, positioning MMRDA as a progressive and globally aligned metropolitan agency capable of delivering complex urban infrastructure at scale.
