Construction on the proposed 120-ft road in Kandivali is scheduled to commence in mid-March, according to municipal authorities. The initiative marks the start of a major infrastructure effort in Mumbai’s north-western suburbs and is aimed at easing congestion along an important arterial corridor. The project covers a long stretch designed to expand carriageway capacity and improve traffic movement in the area.
Officials said planning for the road has reached an advanced stage, with preliminary surveys and required permissions already completed. With these steps in place, contractors are expected to begin mobilising machinery and personnel at the site shortly.
The civic body has planned the work in phases to reduce inconvenience to commuters and nearby residents. Construction activities will include widening the road, resurfacing the carriageway, and adding drainage systems and pedestrian facilities. These improvements are intended to enhance safety while also strengthening the road’s ability to handle heavy rainfall during the monsoon.
Utility departments are also coordinating to shift pipelines, cables, and other infrastructure wherever necessary before the main construction progresses. In addition, traffic management measures will be introduced at major junctions along the route to regulate vehicle movement and limit congestion during the construction period.
Residents and businesses in the vicinity may face temporary disruptions such as partial lane closures, construction-related noise, and restricted access at some points along the stretch. To help commuters plan their routes, municipal authorities plan to release work schedules and diversion maps. Public transport services and pedestrian crossings will be given priority to ensure continuity of daily travel.
Officials believe the project will improve connectivity within Kandivali and surrounding neighbourhoods by providing a wider and more dependable road for both passenger and commercial vehicles. The start of work in mid-March is expected to mark the beginning of visible changes along the corridor as the project moves forward.
