The Raigad district is poised for a major infrastructure upgrade as the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) progresses with the Revas-Karanja bridge project. Reports from the Free Press Journal and other outlets indicate that the new four-lane bridge across Dharamtar Creek will dramatically reduce the current 70-km road journey between Uran and Alibaug from nearly two hours to just 30 minutes.
This initiative is part of the larger 498-km Revas–Redi Coastal Highway (MSH-4). The 10.25-km stretch includes a 2.04-km bridge engineered for speeds of up to 80 km/h. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde described the project as a “game-changer,” highlighting its potential to ensure smooth connectivity for travelers from Mumbai via the Atal Setu.
Beyond improving commute times, the bridge is expected to have a strong economic impact. By shortening the distance between Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) and Alibaug from 55 km to 30 km, it will facilitate faster logistics and offer direct access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. Local residents have noted that the bridge will reduce reliance on seasonal ferry services, which frequently halt operations during the monsoon months.
Construction is advancing steadily, and the infrastructure is set to significantly boost Konkan tourism while improving daily commutes for residents of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The bridge not only promises convenience but also opens doors for regional development and better connectivity across Raigad and neighboring districts.
