Mumbai Road Concretisation To Finish By May 2027, Says BMC Chief Ashwini Bhide

Mumbai’s large-scale road concretisation project is now scheduled for completion by May 2027, with civic authorities aiming to deliver a more durable and pothole-free road network across the city. The timeline has been revised multiple times, moving from earlier targets of 2025 and 2026 due to ongoing delays.

During a recent review meeting, Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide instructed officials to adhere strictly to the updated deadlines. Phase 1 of the project is scheduled for completion by December 12, 2026, while Phase 2 is expected to conclude by May 2027, with no further extensions permitted. She also emphasised the importance of maintaining high-quality standards while minimising inconvenience to residents.

Officials have been directed to complete all ongoing road work by May 31 and avoid initiating any new projects during the monsoon season. The civic administration has underlined transparency and quality as key priorities in executing the initiative.

Launched in 2023, the project is part of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s broader infrastructure upgrade plan, aimed at improving road durability, easing traffic movement, and enhancing overall commuting conditions. Work is being carried out in two phases, covering a total of 2,118 roads spanning 691.08 km. So far, approximately 488.24 km—around 71% of the total target—has been completed, with work on the remaining stretches expected to begin soon.

To keep citizens informed, the BMC has introduced a real-time dashboard on its website, offering detailed updates on completed, ongoing, and upcoming road works.

“The dashboard provides separate details of completed, ongoing, and upcoming road work, along with photographs and progress updates. The civic body has also made detailed information available for each road, including length, width, start and completion dates, percentage of work completed, and the current status of work, organised zone-wise and ward-wise for easy access. Citizens can search for specific roads through the search bar or use the Mumbai map interface to track work in their area,” said a civic official from BMC’s road department.
