NMMC Plans Major Upgrades From Crematoriums To Parks, Greenlights 40 Key Initiatives

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Standing Committee has approved around 40 important civic proposals aimed at upgrading the city’s infrastructure and addressing pending maintenance work. The initiatives cover repairs of crematoriums, footpaths, drainage systems, and other essential public facilities, reflecting a renewed focus on enhancing urban services for residents.

Speaking on the approvals, Ashok Patil said, “We have approved pending works in all wards. Regarding pension, we will take the workers into confidence and the most suitable option will be decided.” He stressed that discussions related to the National Pension Scheme will involve employees before final decisions are made.

Patil also underlined transparency in governance, noting that agendas for Standing Committee and General Body meetings are shared in advance with all members. “Standing committee agenda three to four days before the meeting. General body members will receive it in time… even this agenda was given as per rules,” he added.

The committee discussed plans to enhance public amenities, particularly at Wonder Park, aiming to provide better recreational facilities for citizens during holidays. Patil welcomed suggestions from residents to further improve these spaces.

On the waste management front, NMMC is exploring innovative measures, including fuel generation from dumping grounds. “We will try to generate fuel from the dumping ground project. We have changed the contractor as the cost for NMMC has reduced,” Patil said. He highlighted that solid waste management will be handled more efficiently going forward, reflecting the civic body’s commitment to sustainability.

Overall, the approved proposals demonstrate NMMC’s focus on strengthening infrastructure, improving civic services, and implementing sustainable practices. The corporation aims to ensure timely execution, transparent governance, and a better quality of life for Navi Mumbai residents.
