Thane’s 900-Bed Super-Specialty Hospital Project Enters Final Stage, Opening Imminent

Healthcare infrastructure in Maharashtra is set for a major boost as the upcoming 900-bed Thane District Super-Specialty Hospital enters its final stage of completion. Built on the premises of the historic district hospital, the new facility is expected to become operational within the next three to four months.

The project, led by District Civil Surgeon Dr. Kailas Pawar and supported by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, is designed to deliver advanced medical care to residents across Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. The large-scale complex has been divided into three key sections: a 500-bed general hospital, a 200-bed women’s hospital, and a 200-bed super-specialty referral centre.

The hospital is equipped with modern medical infrastructure aimed at handling critical and complex cases locally, reducing the need for patients to travel to Mumbai. It will house specialised units such as a Cath Lab for cardiac care, oncology services including radiation and chemotherapy, and a paediatric dialysis unit.

Critical care facilities include advanced ICU, NICU, and SNCU units, which are expected to significantly improve maternal and infant healthcare outcomes. The campus also features support infrastructure such as a helipad for air ambulance services, multi-level parking, and a dedicated nursing training centre.

Although the main construction work has been completed, the hospital’s launch depends on the final installation and testing of sophisticated medical equipment, along with the commissioning of a dedicated 8-megawatt underground power supply line from Airoli. Once these processes, along with staff recruitment, are completed, the hospital is expected to begin operations as a key regional healthcare hub.
