The Government of Maharashtra has intensified efforts to upgrade coastal infrastructure, with Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane instructing officials to speed up work on the Mandwa Marina Jetty and undertake urgent repairs of the Revas–Mandwa passenger jetty in Alibaug.
The directions were issued during a review meeting at the state secretariat, attended by MLA Mahendra Dalvi along with senior officials. The discussion focused on expediting ongoing works and ensuring that key milestones are achieved before the onset of the monsoon.
According to the minister, the upgrades are expected to improve sea connectivity between Mumbai and Alibaug, particularly by enhancing passenger safety. He emphasised that both projects should be treated as priority initiatives to ensure smoother travel during the high-demand monsoon period.
The Mandwa Marina Jetty project involves the construction of an approach jetty and a sloping jetty, installation of large-diameter piles, dredging of the access channel, and development of electrical infrastructure. Officials indicated that around 58 per cent of the work has been completed so far, with instructions given to accelerate the remaining construction.
At the same time, focus has shifted to the Revas–Mandwa passenger jetty, where structural issues have been identified. A technical study conducted by IIT Bombay recommended immediate repair measures, considering the growing number of passengers and ferry services operating on the route. Initial repair work is already underway.
The minister has also called for immediate strengthening of the Revas jetty and directed authorities to strictly adhere to project timelines, ensuring improved infrastructure readiness for the upcoming travel season.
