In a decisive move aimed at improving traffic flow at Kalamboli Junction in Navi Mumbai, authorities carried out a demolition drive targeting unauthorised constructions obstructing the ongoing Kalamboli Junction Improvement Project being implemented by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation.
Six illegal concrete structures located in Kamothe, opposite MGM Hospital, and falling within a service corridor, were identified as major hurdles to the project’s progress. Acting on this, the unauthorised constructions department of CIDCO initiated an eviction and demolition operation on Tuesday. With adequate security arrangements in place, all six encroachments were fully removed.
According to a CIDCO official, the clearance operation is expected to significantly accelerate the junction improvement work and provide long-term relief from traffic congestion at one of Navi Mumbai’s busiest intersections. The official further noted that during a routine site inspection, an additional ongoing illegal construction activity was also observed. Immediate action was taken to halt and remove the structure, thereby preventing further encroachment on CIDCO land.
CIDCO Chief Vigilance Officer Suresh Mengde stated that prompt intervention ensured that further violations were stopped at the site itself.
The entire operation was carried out under the supervision of CIDCO Chief Vigilance Officer and Chief Controller Vishal Dhage, and guided by Kamothe Node Controller Shrikant Pawaskar. Officials from the CUC (Controller Unauthorised Constructions) department, local police personnel, CIDCO police unit, CIDCO security staff, and Maharashtra Security Force teams jointly executed the drive.
Authorities emphasised that the demolished structures were erected in violation of CIDCO regulations and without obtaining mandatory approvals from the corporation. Officials also indicated that similar enforcement actions will continue in the coming days to remove all illegal encroachments on CIDCO-owned land and ensure smooth implementation of infrastructure projects in the region.
