CIDCO Removes 5,800+ Illegal Structures To Free Land For Navi Mumbai Mega Infrastructure Projects

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has carried out an extensive anti-encroachment campaign, demolishing 5,804 unauthorised structures across approximately 110 hectares in Navi Mumbai over the past two years. The drive is part of a broader effort to clear land for major planned infrastructure and urban development projects.

According to CIDCO officials, the reclaimed land will support several upcoming landmark developments, including Aerocity, Educity, Medicity, International Corporate Park, Logistic Park, an Entertainment Arena, metro rail expansion, and the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) project.

CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal stated that the authority remains focused on safeguarding public land and steering Navi Mumbai towards becoming a systematically planned, global-standard city. He added that the removal of illegal encroachments highlights CIDCO’s firm approach to preventing unauthorised occupation and securing land reserved for future growth.

Officials explained that encroachments on CIDCO-owned land had significantly obstructed planned urban expansion. To improve enforcement, the Encroachment Control Department has been brought under the supervision of the Chief Vigilance Officer. Action against illegal constructions has been taken under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, in line with directives from the Supreme Court and High Court.

Prior to demolition drives, CIDCO issued formal notices to occupants and also published public notices in newspapers to ensure wider awareness. Over the last two years, multiple eviction drives have been conducted, freeing up large parcels of land from encroachment.

Post-demolition, CIDCO has strengthened preventive measures by securing cleared plots through boundary walls and fencing. Some of the recovered land parcels are also being prepared for auction to ensure productive use. In the Kharghar-Turbhe Link Road (KTLR) project area, encroaching hutments were removed after coordination with affected residents.

The corporation has also initiated legal action against operators of dumpers, trucks, JCBs, and poclains involved in illegal dumping and soil theft on CIDCO land.

Similar enforcement actions have been carried out in the NAINA region, where illegal structures and hoardings were removed to support structured development across the extended Navi Mumbai corridor.
