Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday inspected the progress of the ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project, one of the country’s largest infrastructure initiatives aimed at transforming inter-city connectivity and freight movement.
The inspection focused on the elevated corridor being developed between Sarai Kale Khan and Jaitpur along the Yamuna stretch in Delhi. Once completed, the expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Mumbai to nearly 12 hours, offering a major boost to road transport efficiency and logistics operations.
Rekha Gupta, along with Members of Parliament Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Parvesh Verma, accompanied Gadkari during the review visit. Senior government officials and project authorities were also present during the inspection.
The Union Minister reviewed the pace of construction through a special bus tour conducted along sections of the ongoing project. During the visit, officials briefed him on various aspects of the expressway, including engineering progress, construction timelines, and upcoming phases of execution.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is being developed as a high-speed access-controlled corridor designed to improve connectivity between northern and western India. The mega infrastructure project is expected to strengthen freight movement, reduce fuel consumption, improve travel efficiency, and support economic activity across multiple states.
Officials associated with the project said the expressway will play a crucial role in enhancing logistics infrastructure and reducing transportation costs for commercial movement between key industrial and urban centres.
The corridor is also expected to improve regional connectivity by linking several cities, industrial clusters and emerging economic zones along its route. Authorities believe the project will become a major milestone in India’s expanding highway and transport infrastructure network once operational.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is among several large-scale infrastructure projects being undertaken by the central government to modernise road transport systems and support long-term economic growth across the country.
