Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Wednesday completed 100 days of its current governing body, with Mayor Sujata Patil outlining several civic reforms, policy decisions, and infrastructure initiatives introduced during the period.
According to the civic administration, the first phase of governance has concentrated on urban infrastructure, environmental measures, education reforms and employment initiatives aimed at women’s empowerment.
Addressing a press conference, Patil said the administration had worked with the guiding principle of “Speed in work, decisions in public interest” under the leadership of Maharashtra minister Ganesh Naik.
“The first 100 days of ‘NMMC 6.0’ have been dedicated to transparent, disciplined and citizen-centric governance. Every decision has been taken within the legal framework and with public welfare as the top priority,” Patil said.
One of the major announcements made by the civic body was the decision not to increase property tax or water charges in the 2026-27 municipal budget. The administration also approved measures aimed at reducing penalties on need-based and low-income constructions in gaothan areas to a minimum of 5%, along with a proposal to remove triple taxation on such structures.
NMMC further stated that it had approved a city-wide air pollution control and air quality improvement programme.
In the education sector, the civic body announced the Education Transformation Policy 2026, under which Marathi-medium municipal schools will gradually be converted into English-medium institutions. The corporation has also approved a proposal for establishing the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Education Board.
“As a woman mayor, empowering women through employment opportunities has been one of our priorities. In the first phase, women will be recruited as bus drivers in the civic transport service,” Patil said.
To address increasing traffic congestion, the administration approved infrastructure projects under the City Mobility Plan, including proposed flyovers and twin underground tunnels at key locations across Navi Mumbai.
Additional announcements included a 90% concession on water charges, scholarship and student training assistance schemes, salary hikes for Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport employees, implementation of the National Pension Scheme, and measures related to the regularisation of contractual workers.
“While these 100 days mark only the beginning, we remain committed to ensuring faster, more effective and more people-centric development for Navi Mumbai,” Patil added.
