MHADA Hands Over First Set Of 827 Rehabilitation Homes In Worli BDD Redevelopment

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority has commenced the allotment and possession process for 827 rehabilitation apartments under the Worli BDD Chawl redevelopment project in Mumbai. The rehabilitation units are part of the first rehab building developed for eligible residents from the old BDD chawls in Worli.

According to MHADA, allotment letters were issued to 41 eligible residents on the first day of the process, while 36 families that completed the required formalities received possession of their new homes.

The allotment process currently covers residents from wings F, G and H of rehabilitation building number one. Distribution of allotment and possession letters is being carried out at MHADA’s project office at Sumer Kendra in Worli between 11 am and 6 pm on working days, excluding public holidays.

The Worli redevelopment forms part of the larger BDD Chawl redevelopment programme being implemented across Worli, Naigaon and N M Joshi Marg-Parel. The project is being executed by MHADA through the Mumbai Housing and Area Development Board.

Authorities stated that the F, G and H wings of the first rehabilitation tower have already received the required occupation certificate. Possession of units is being granted after verification of documents submitted by beneficiaries.

Residents have been instructed to remain personally present with documents, including rehabilitation agreements, Aadhaar and PAN card copies, passport-sized photographs, a family photograph, and notarised undertakings from transit camp occupants.

Under the redevelopment plan, nearly 9,689 residents from 121 ageing chawls in Worli will be rehabilitated. Existing 160 sq ft tenements are being replaced with free 500 sq ft carpeted 2BHK apartments on an ownership basis.

The project includes construction of 34 rehabilitation towers of 40 floors each, along with podium parking, landscaped open spaces and one parking slot for every eligible household. MHADA has also stated that it will maintain the rehabilitated buildings for a period of 12 years.
