The Maharashtra government has approved a package of special incentives for five mega and ultra-mega industrial projects involving a total proposed investment of Rs 89,731 crore, as part of efforts to boost manufacturing, employment and regional industrial growth across the state.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the decision following a meeting of the Industries Department Cabinet Sub-Committee in Mumbai. According to officials, the projects are expected to create nearly 20,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The approved investments span sectors including coal gasification and downstream products, solar cell modules, wafers, ingots and panels, electric steel manufacturing, PET tyre cord and synthetic graphite anode materials. Officials stated that these projects are aimed at strengthening Maharashtra’s position in advanced manufacturing and emerging industrial sectors.
The projects have been approved under the state’s industrial policy framework, which provides financial incentives through the Group Incentive Scheme to attract large-scale investments. The government has also constituted a special committee headed by the Chief Minister to fast-track approvals for mega projects and support industrial expansion.
Authorities said the investments are expected to benefit regions such as Vidarbha, Marathwada and Nashik, contributing to more balanced industrial development across Maharashtra. Apart from direct employment, the projects are also expected to generate opportunities in logistics, ancillary industries and supply chain networks.
Officials added that the investments could support local MSMEs and increase training and skill development opportunities for youth in technology-oriented sectors.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Industries Minister Uday Samant, Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal and senior officials from the Industries Department and MIDC.
Separately, the Maharashtra government also approved a Rs 260 crore action plan to reduce human-wildlife conflict. Forest Minister Ganesh Naik said AI-based wildlife alert systems will be installed in 1,000 villages located near forest regions to help residents track wild animal movement and improve response mechanisms.
