Mumbai Monorail has entered an important operational testing phase, with trial runs currently underway near Wadala ahead of the proposed restart of passenger services on the Chembur–Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk corridor in June 2026. The exercise marks a significant step in bringing the suspended corridor back into regular operation after several months of technical upgrades and maintenance work.
According to officials, the ongoing trials are part of a comprehensive preparedness programme focused on evaluating the system before reopening it to commuters. The testing activities are being carried out across the Chembur–Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk route to examine the functioning of key operational components and supporting infrastructure.
As reported by The Times of India, authorities are conducting detailed checks related to train operations, signalling systems, power supply infrastructure and safety mechanisms to ensure the corridor is ready for public use. Officials stated that the inspections are intended to confirm that all systems are performing smoothly and efficiently before commercial services resume.
The current testing phase follows a series of infrastructure upgrades and modernisation efforts undertaken across the monorail network in recent months. The work reportedly included system maintenance, technical improvements and measures aimed at improving reliability and operational performance.
The Wadala section has become a central area for these assessments, with engineers and technical teams carrying out multiple inspections and operational evaluations. Officials said the ongoing exercise will help identify and address any pending technical issues before the corridor is reopened for passengers.
In addition to the trial runs, authorities are also conducting final safety inspections involving tracks, stations, train systems and related operational infrastructure to ensure the network meets required standards before services restart.
