MHADA declares 82 buildings as ‘most dangerous’ in Central and South Mumbai, appeals to residents to vacate

Here’s a concise 200-word news report:

Ahead of the monsoon season, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has identified 82 residential buildings in South and Central Mumbai as highly dangerous and requiring immediate evacuation. The list was released by MHADA’s Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (MBRRB) following its annual pre-monsoon structural audit.

According to MHADA, the list includes 43 buildings that were already classified as highly dangerous last year. The identified structures are located across areas such as Girgaum, Kalbadevi, Kamathipura, Khetwadi, Mazgaon, Dadar and Prabhadevi. A total of 2,736 occupants, including 2,256 residential and 480 non-residential tenants, reside in these buildings.

MHADA stated that notices have been issued to residents, directing them to vacate unsafe premises. Of the occupants served notices so far, 29 have shifted to MHADA transit camps, while 36 have arranged alternative accommodation. The authority is making arrangements to accommodate more than 2,100 residents in transit camps.

The move comes amid growing concerns over monsoon-related building collapses in Mumbai. MHADA has appealed to residents to cooperate with evacuation efforts and follow safety instructions to prevent loss of life and property during the rainy season.
