A social media post highlighting the deteriorating condition of a public skate park beneath the Hindmata flyover in Dadar East prompted swift action from Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde, who visited the site and directed civic authorities to undertake immediate clean-up and restoration measures.
The issue came to light after resident Harsh Chaubey shared an Instagram video showing piles of dust and garbage accumulated inside the skate park. The post raised concerns about hygiene and safety, particularly for children and skating enthusiasts who regularly use the facility. The video gained significant attention online, drawing public focus to the condition of the recreational space.
Responding to the viral post, the Mayor conducted an on-site inspection on Saturday along with officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). During the visit, she expressed concern about the facility’s upkeep and instructed civic teams to carry out immediate cleaning and ensure regular maintenance in the future.
Following the inspection, sanitation workers removed accumulated waste, cleaned the area and washed the entire premises. According to the BMC, the restoration work was completed within a few hours. The Mayor also directed officials to undertake repair work, repaint damaged sections, improve drainage systems to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon, enhance lighting infrastructure and deploy security personnel to protect the public amenity.
“The positive use of social media by vigilant citizens can become a powerful tool for resolving civic issues. We will continue to take prompt cognisance of genuine complaints and suggestions made by residents,” Tawde said.
Chaubey later joined the Mayor at the site, where she commended his civic engagement. As part of the visit, ornamental plants, including zebra plants and spider lilies, were planted to improve the appearance of the space.
The 187-square-metre skate park was developed between December 2022 and March 2023 beneath the Hindmata flyover as part of a civic beautification initiative and includes skating facilities, children’s play equipment and recreational installations.
