The Maharashtra Cabinet Infrastructure Committee has approved a Rs 1,722-crore connector project that will link the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link with Bandra Fort, providing a significant boost to Mumbai’s transport infrastructure. The 3.55-km connector is expected to improve connectivity and substantially reduce travel time for commuters.
The proposal was cleared during a meeting of the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Along with the Mumbai project, the committee also sanctioned a key metro expansion project in Nagpur aimed at strengthening the city’s public transport network.
The Mumbai connector will serve as a crucial link between the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link and Bandra Fort, enhancing traffic movement and improving access across the western corridor. The project is expected to ease congestion and offer faster connectivity for daily commuters.
In Nagpur, the committee approved the extension of Phase 2 of the Metro from the Kanhan River to Kanhan city. The 1.40-km elevated corridor, estimated to cost ₹310.35 crore, will include one metro station and will be implemented by Maha Metro after receiving final approval from the Central government.
The latest approvals come shortly after the Maharashtra government sanctioned infrastructure projects worth Rs 22,611 crore on June 9 to strengthen connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). These included a six-lane tunnel between Gaimukh and Fountain Hotel, a six-lane elevated corridor from Fountain Hotel to Bhayandar, and the expansion of the Navi Mumbai Metro through Line 1A and Line 2, which will provide connectivity to the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Of the total investment approved earlier this month, Rs 17,036 crore has been allocated for the Ghodbunder Road-Bhayandar tunnel and elevated corridor project, while Rs 5,575 crore has been earmarked for the Navi Mumbai Metro expansion. Together, these projects are expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce traffic congestion and support long-term urban infrastructure development across Maharashtra.
