Panvel Civic Body Approves Revised Rs 5,042 Crore Budget, Increases Allocation For Infrastructure & Development

The Standing Committee of the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a revised budget of Rs 5,042.10 crore for the financial year 2026-27, raising the overall outlay by Rs 189 crore to strengthen infrastructure, environmental conservation and local development projects. The revised budget will now be placed before the General Body for final approval.

The original budget of Rs 4,843.10 crore was presented by Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale on March 30. Following a review, the Standing Committee approved additional expenditure, with a significant share directed towards development initiatives across the city.

Among the major revisions, the allocation for corporators’ development funds has been increased from Rs 8 crore to Rs 22 crore, providing elected representatives with greater financial resources to undertake civic works in their respective wards.

The committee has also introduced a new budget provision of Rs 25 crore for the construction of symbolic public monuments. In addition, allocations for river conservation and beautification have been enhanced to support environmental restoration and improve water bodies within the municipal limits.

A substantial increase has also been approved under the 15th Finance Commission grants. The expenditure allocation has been revised from Rs 30 crore to Rs 170 crore, marking an increase of Rs 140 crore. According to the committee, the higher provision has been made in anticipation of both pending and current grant releases from the Central government.

The revised budget was approved during the Standing Committee meeting held on July 7 under the chairmanship of Baban Mukadam.

With the enhanced development expenditure, the civic body aims to accelerate infrastructure creation, strengthen environmental initiatives and improve public amenities across Panvel. The revised financial plan also reflects the corporation’s focus on increasing investment in urban development projects while making provisions for expected financial assistance under various government schemes.

The proposal will now be presented before the General Body of the Panvel Municipal Corporation for its final approval before the revised budget is implemented.
