Mumbai CSMT Redevelopment: Four Express Trains To Remain Short-Terminated Until September 5

Central Railway has extended the traffic and power block at Platform 16 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) until September 5 as redevelopment and infrastructure work continues at the iconic Mumbai station.

The extension will affect four Mail and Express services, which will continue to be short-terminated at Dadar and Thane instead of CSMT during the extended block period. Passengers using these trains have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and make arrangements for onward travel from the temporary terminating stations.

Four Trains Affected

According to Central Railway, three trains will be short-terminated at Dadar: 12810 Howrah-CSMT Express, 12112 Amravati-CSMT Express and 22120 Madgaon-CSMT Tejas Express.

At Thane, 12134 Mangaluru-CSMT Express will continue to terminate short.

Passengers travelling on these services have been advised to check their travel arrangements and allow additional time for reaching their final destinations from Dadar or Thane.

CSMT Block Extended for Fifth Time

The latest extension is the fifth time the traffic and power block at CSMT has been extended. The block was originally scheduled from February 1 to April 26 for 85 days.

It was subsequently extended until May 19, June 13, August 5 and August 21. With the latest extension, the block will remain operational until September 5, taking the total duration to 218 days, compared with the initially planned 85 days.

Redevelopment Work Continues

The extended block is required for foundation and infrastructure work at Platforms 16 and 17. The work is being undertaken by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) as part of the broader Mumbai CSMT redevelopment project.

Central Railway said the traffic and power blocks are necessary to facilitate infrastructure upgrades and modernisation work at the station.

The railway administration has requested passengers to cooperate with officials and make appropriate travel plans during the extended block. It also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the changes.

Night Block Planned at Diva

Meanwhile, Central Railway has announced a separate traffic and power block at Diva station for three consecutive nights to facilitate construction of the Kalyan End Foot Over Bridge (FOB).

The two-hour block will be implemented from 1.20 am to 3.20 am on the nights of August 21-22, August 22-23 and August 23-24, 2026.

The work will affect the Up and Down slow lines between Kalva and Dombivli. The block has been scheduled to facilitate construction of the Kalyan End FOB at km 42/128-130 at Diva station and ensure the infrastructure work is carried out safely.
