The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated demolition action against alleged unauthorised constructions at Mumbai’s premium residential project, Rustomjee Crown, located in the Crown Mill Compound. The civic body’s move affects 128 luxury apartments after complaints of illegal occupation of common areas linked to the building’s lift sections.
According to the complaint, some flat owners allegedly extended their apartments by incorporating shared and open spaces around the lifts, leading to violations of approved building plans. The disputed area is estimated to have a market value exceeding Rs 250 crore, with properties in the affected section reportedly commanding prices above Rs 1 lakh per square foot.
The complaint was filed by RTI activist Santosh Daundkar, following which the BMC’s assistant commissioner of the G-South ward directed officials to take action against the structures identified as unauthorised.
Rustomjee Crown consists of three towers, each rising up to 63 floors. Two of the three towers have already received Occupancy Certificates from the civic body.
The flats facing action reportedly include units associated with Maharashtra politicians, government officials and business personalities. Among those reportedly affected is a flat linked to Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Sanjay Rathod and his wife Sheetal Rathod. A residence associated with former state minister Deepak Kesarkar is also reportedly part of the action. Kesarkar is said to be paying a monthly rent of Rs 4.20 lakh for the apartment.
The flat of Samadhan Sarvankar, son of MLA Sada Sarvankar, has also reportedly come under scrutiny. Apart from these, residences connected to senior bureaucrats and prominent business figures are reportedly being examined by authorities.
The BMC has maintained that the demolition drive is being carried out against structures it considers unauthorised and in violation of building regulations. The civic body is now proceeding with the removal of the disputed extensions as part of its action against illegal constructions.
