Hafeez Contractor Raises Concerns Over Green Spaces And Urban Growth At CWAB Awards

Mumbai hosted the 21st Construction World Architect & Builder Awards (CWAB) 2026 alongside the Construction Technology Show (CTS) 2026, bringing together leading architects, developers, builders, contractors, technology firms and industry experts to discuss the future of India’s built environment.

Held on August 19 and 20 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, the event focused on the growing role of technology, sustainability and innovation in construction. CTS 2026, themed “From Blueprint to Build: Making Construction Technology Work on Ground”, explored applications of artificial intelligence, Building Information Modelling (BIM), digital twins, robotics and analytics in improving project execution.

Pratap Padode, Founder of FIRST Construction Council, highlighted the changing requirements of large-scale projects, including data centres, semiconductor facilities, battery plants and Global Capability Centres. He said such developments require advanced technology and highly skilled professionals, making conventional construction processes increasingly inadequate.

The event also marked the launch of the ConTech Awards, which recognised startups and innovators working across construction technology. Winners included RDash, Inkers Technology, SitePace.AI, Bandhoo Solutions and Services, Aasaan Tech, 5D VDC Services and Zenalyst across various categories.

The CWAB Awards recognised achievements in architecture, construction, sustainability, interiors, technology and real estate. Falguni Padode, Co-founder and Group Managing Editor of ASAPP Info Global Group, said, “The credibility of an award lies in the rigour behind it. CWAB has always been built on a robust evaluation process and the collective expertise of our eminent juries. This year, we have recognised excellence across generations, disciplines and scales of the built environment.”

A key moment came during the Hafeez Contractor Awards for Young Architects, where four emerging professionals like Nikhil Gyan Bhandari, Vishwas Venkat, Shashank Shahabadi and Ravideep Singh were honoured.

Speaking at the event, architect Hafeez Contractor expressed concern over unchecked urban expansion and environmental degradation. “Earlier, years ago, I believed that vertical growth was the way to go but of late after observing all concerning elements, I feel that we cannot encroach upon forests and green spaces and we must provide for them adequately for a good ecological balance.”

URC Construction received the CWAB Legacy Recognition – Editor’s Choice Award for 70 Years of Trust, Technology and Timely Delivery. Other recognitions included HAACE for Construction Technology Innovation and Bhawanipur House, Kolkata, for Sustainable Project of the Year.

Major real estate companies including Sobha, Oberoi Realty, Godrej Properties, Sunteck Realty, Ajmera Realty, Signature Global, Kalpataru, Brigade Enterprises and Prestige Estates were also recognised.
