Crane Section Falls At Kandivali Construction Site, Motorcycle Damaged

A large section of a crane collapsed at an under-construction building site in Sai Nagar, Kandivali West, Mumbai, on Wednesday, damaging a motorcycle and triggering a response from the fire brigade and police.

The incident occurred when part of the construction equipment suddenly fell at the site. Emergency teams were immediately alerted and reached the location to assess the situation and ensure that no one was trapped beneath the debris.

According to preliminary information from the police, no injuries have been reported so far, and there is no indication that anyone was caught under the fallen structure. Authorities are examining the site and gathering information about the circumstances that led to the crane section falling.

A motorcycle parked near the construction site was damaged in the incident. Further details regarding the extent of the damage and the cause of the collapse are awaited.

The incident has once again raised concerns over safety measures at construction sites in Mumbai, particularly as the city continues to witness extensive redevelopment and infrastructure activity.

The Kandivali mishap comes nearly a week after another crane-related accident in Mumbai. On August 21, a crane toppled onto a slum area in Kurla East, injuring 10 people, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Following that accident, personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, 108 ambulance services and BMC ward teams were deployed at the site. A BMC junior engineer from the L Ward, who was present during the operation, said the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) was preparing to undertake an eviction and demolition drive at the location.

According to the official, the Kurla accident took place while a crane was being installed with the assistance of a Poclain machine for the proposed operation.

With construction activity expanding across Mumbai, incidents involving heavy machinery have highlighted the need for strict adherence to safety protocols, regular equipment inspections and effective precautions around active work sites. Authorities are expected to assess the Kandivali incident and determine whether any safety lapses contributed to the mishap.
