Central Railway has extended the traffic and power block at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) until September 5, 2026, as redevelopment work continues on Platforms 16 and 17. The extended block will result in select Mail and Express trains being short-terminated at Dadar and Thane.
The railway administration has advised passengers using the affected services to plan their journeys accordingly.
Four Trains Affected by CSMT Work
Under the revised arrangement, three trains will continue to be short-terminated at Dadar. These are Train No. 12810 Howrah-CSMT Express, Train No. 12112 Amravati-CSMT Express and Train No. 22120 Madgaon-CSMT Tejas Express.
Train No. 12134 Mangaluru-CSMT Express will remain short-terminated at Thane until September 5.
Central Railway said the traffic and power block is necessary to facilitate infrastructure works linked to the redevelopment of the historic CSMT terminal. Passengers have been asked to cooperate with the railway authorities and make appropriate changes to their travel plans.
Pune Yard Gets Fourth 60 kg Diamond Double Slip
Meanwhile, Central Railway’s Pune Division has completed the conversion of its fourth 52 kg Diamond Double Slip (DDS) No. 251/252 at Pune Yard to a 60 kg configuration.
A Diamond Double Slip is a specialised track arrangement that enables trains to move between intersecting tracks in several directions. The heavier 60 kg rails are expected to improve track strength, durability and reliability while supporting increasing traffic and heavier loads.
The conversion was completed during a nine-hour traffic and power block on August 23, between 8 am and 5 pm, with the block restored on schedule.
The work included replacement of eight stock rails, eight tongue rails and associated fittings. Two acute and two obtuse crossings, eight approach rails and four lead rails were also renewed.
Four in-situ glued joints and six prefabricated glued joints were installed, while four switch motors and their roddings were replaced.
Central Railway said engineering and signalling teams worked together on the project, involving 200 permanent-way workers, 25 signalling and telecommunications personnel, five P-Way supervisors and eight S&T supervisors, along with specialised teams.
The upgrade is expected to strengthen Pune Yard’s track infrastructure and improve operational reliability.
