Construction of the Shunya Iconic Bridge on Mumbai Metro Line 2B is advancing, with several sections of the main deck now being built simultaneously. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) shared the latest update on September 17.
The 130-metre cable-stayed bridge at Vakola Nalla will form part of the elevated Metro alignment. It comprises an 80-metre main span over the nalla and a 50-metre anchor span.
Deck Construction Progresses
The deck, which will carry Metro trains across the bridge, is being developed through reinforcement, formwork, installation of embedded components and concrete casting. MMRDA said quality and dimensional checks are being undertaken at different stages.
The authority has also highlighted the bridge’s architectural design, describing it as a structure intended to combine engineering requirements with a distinctive visual identity.
Status of Metro Line 2B
Metro Line 2B is a 23.643-km elevated corridor between DN Nagar and Mandale, designed to strengthen east-west connectivity and provide links with Mumbai’s wider Metro and suburban railway network.
The 5.5-km Mandale-Diamond Garden-Chembur section became operational in April 2026, followed by a 0.29-km extension to Chembur station on August 13, 2026. Construction continues on the remaining portions of the corridor, including the Shunya Bridge.
Vakola and Chembur Property Markets
Vakola, located near the bridge site, and Chembur, which is already served by Line 2B, are among the neighbourhoods being watched as the corridor develops.
Indicative 2026 property data cited in the report puts the average listing rate at around Rs 30,900 per sq ft in Vakola and Rs 32,650 per sq ft in Chembur. Average transaction rates were reported at approximately Rs 23,171 per sq ft and Rs 26,719 per sq ft, respectively.
Over three years, the cited data indicates flat prices increased by 2.1% in Vakola and 9.9% in Chembur. These figures reflect broader market activity and do not establish a direct price impact from Metro Line 2B.
For buyers, the project’s progress provides another factor to consider alongside building-specific prices, connectivity, amenities and transaction trends.
With deck construction progressing, the Shunya Iconic Bridge represents another step towards completing the remaining sections of Metro Line 2B.
