The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a stop-work notice at actor Ajay Devgn’s bungalow in Juhu following concerns over proposed work linked to a salon and spa.
The notice was issued by the civic body’s K-West ward at the property located within Kapol Co-operative Housing Society. According to the BMC, permission for the proposed commercial use of the premises had not been produced when the civic body sought the required documents.
The action followed a complaint from the housing society regarding work being carried out at the property. Civic officials subsequently asked the owners to submit relevant approvals and documents. The Devgn family has sought four weeks’ time to respond to the notice.
“The issue is with the Building and Factory Department of K-West ward. Prima facie, no permission was granted for commercial use of the S-10 premises. After receiving Kapol Co-operative Housing Society complaint, BMC sought the relevant documents from the property owners and, as the required permissions were not produced, a stop-work notice was issued,” said local Corporator, Sudha Singh.
The property in question is a 7,802 sq ft bungalow at Plot S-10, N S Road No. 11 in the JVPD Scheme.
The housing society’s objection is reportedly focused not on the property being leased, but on its proposed conversion for commercial activity. Residents have raised concerns that operating a salon and spa could increase customer footfall and create additional pressure on parking, security and traffic, while also contributing to higher noise levels on the area’s narrow internal roads.
Ruchi Kanojiya, chief legal and compliance officer at the Devgn Group, was unavailable for comment. However, sources close to the actor said, “The requisite permissions and approvals from the concerned authorities in relation to the proposed use of the premises have been duly obtained.”
The matter remains subject to the submission and scrutiny of the relevant permissions and documents by the concerned authorities.
