The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a fresh 30-year lease for a 6,110-square-metre plot in Bandra allotted to the National Society for Clean Cities India, allowing the organisation to continue its activities from the premises.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The land, identified as City Survey No. 590 in Bandra, had earlier been leased to the social organisation for civic and cleanliness-related activities.
The previous lease agreement expired on September 24, 2017. The Cabinet has now approved its renewal for another 30 years, effective from September 25, 2017. The annual ground rent will remain at the nominal rate of Re 1.
The renewal provides formal continuity to the organisation’s occupation of the Bandra property and allows it to continue its work from the site without a change in the existing annual ground-rent arrangement.
The National Society for Clean Cities India is involved in initiatives focused on cleanliness, sanitation and broader civic improvement. Its continued use of the land is intended to support these activities from its Bandra premises.
The Cabinet’s approval effectively regularises the lease for the new 30-year period while retaining the symbolic annual rent of Re 1. The decision covers the entire 6,110 sq m parcel and follows the expiry of the earlier lease in 2017.
The renewal comes as the state government formalises the continued allotment of the Bandra land to the organisation. With the lease now extended retrospectively from September 25, 2017, the society can continue its operations under the renewed agreement.
The Cabinet decision also establishes the tenure of the lease for the coming three decades, subject to the terms applicable to the allotment.
The Bandra property, situated in a prominent part of Mumbai, will therefore remain with the National Society for Clean Cities India under the renewed arrangement. The organisation’s civic-focused activities can continue from the premises while the state retains the existing nominal annual ground-rent structure.
The approval was among the decisions taken by the Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday and formally extends the lease that had lapsed in September 2017.
